Alfredo di Stéfano was a legendary figure in the football world, having played for three nations and also helping Real Madrid established total domination in Spain and Europe in a space of ten years from the mid-1950s to mid-1960s.
Nicknamed the “blond arrow”, di Stéfano was a talented playmaker with great fitness, vision, versatility and goalscoring ability. With 216 goals in 282 games, he was Real Madrid’s third all-time top scorer. In total, di Stéfano and Real Madrid won eight league titles and an incredible five consecutive European Cups. The legend himself clinched five Pichichi (Spain top scorer award) during his time at the Spanish giant.
After two decades of football, di Stéfano moved into club management in 1967 and was involved with a host of clubs, including Boca Juniors, River Plate, Valencia and Real Madrid. In 2000, he was named as the President of Honour for Real Madrid.
