The mercurial Rivaldo peaked in 1999, when he swept all individual honours including the prestigious Ballon d’Or and World Footballer of the Year. Blessed with a nimble left foot and superb dribbling skills and technique, the nomadic forward could sometimes win a match on his own with his spectacular goals and freekicks. One such memorable goal was his outrageous match-winning overhead kick against Valencia in the last league game of the 2000/01 season. His hat trick helped Barcelona secured a place in the Champions League in the following season.

Rivaldo had won everything in the football scene, including Spanish La Liga titles with Barcelona, Champions League with AC Milan and the World Cup and Copa America with Brazil. In 2002 when Brazil lifted the World Cup trophy, he was part of the famous 3R (together with Ronaldo and Ronaldinho) that terrorised the defense of the opponents.

In 2008, Rivaldo ended his Europe venture and made a shock move to the unknown Uzbekistan league, largely motivated by huge contract terms.
