Call him everything. One-club man, long time captain, brave lionheart. Carles Puyol was indeed the heart and soul of the Barcelona team in the 2000s. Hardworking and not afraid to lunge in tough tackles, Puyol commanded leadership and respect from his fellow teammates, and struck fear into his opponents.
Puyol was one of the rare groups of players who had won everything in football. In his 15 seasons with Barcelona, Puyol had won league titles, domestic cups and the prestigious Champions League multiple times. In 2009, Puyol was part of the incredible Barcelona team to win six trophies (La Liga, Copa del Rey, Supercopa de Espana, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA World Club Cup) in a single season.
For Spain, Puyol was also part of the golden generation that swept the international glories in the late 2000s. He lifted the European Championship in 2008, and claimed the World Cup medal two years later. Overall, Puyol earned a total of 100 caps for Spain when he retired from the national team in 2013.
