The £11 million transfer fee looks like an absolute bargain today, but many raised their eyebrows when Arsenal signed the struggling French winger Thierry Henry from Juventus in 1999. Years later, the underrated Henry had transformed successfully into one of the most lethal finishers in the world. Often ranked as the best foreign import in the Premier League history, Henry proved his worth by scoring 226 goals in 369 games for Arsenal, where he also led the London club to an incredible undefeated season in 2003/04 famously known as The Invincibles.

The Arsenal legend left after eight seasons to try his luck in Spain, joining Barcelona in 2007. At the Spanish giant, Henry had another career highlight, winning a historic six trophies in a single season in 2009. As he wound down his spectacular career, Henry would play in the United States’ Major League Soccer before he hanged up his boots in 2014.

For France, Henry was their main striker in the late nineties and 2000s. He was also part of France’s golden generation that dominated the world football in the 1998 World Cup and 2000 European Championship. With 51 international goals to his name, Henry was France’s all time top scorer.
