The fiery Oliver Kahn had such a commanding presence between the posts that he often intimidated the opposing strikers to fumble at the last minute. One of the world’s best goalkeepers in the nineties and 2000s, Kahn played for German giant Bayern Munich with great successes, clocking over 600 appearances and winning eight Bundesliga titles and a Champions League.

His longveity in the game was demonstrated well into the 2000s. Kahn retired from Germany national team at age 37, and played his last game for Bayern Munich until 39 years old, a glorious ending to two decades of football career.

Despite having the European Championship and Champions League medals in his collection, Kahn could have achieved more. Two of his heartbreaking moments included the 1999 Champions League final, when Manchester United scored two very late goals to overcome the deficit. Then, in the 2002 World Cup, Kahn’s Germany was beaten 2-0 by Brazil in the final, denying his dream of lifting the World Cup trophy.
