The “Golden Boy” of Real Madrid in the nineties and 2000s, the stylish Raúl, blessed with a lethal left foot, had played for the Spanish giant for almost 15 seasons, scoring 228 league goals in 550 games. Overall, Raúl turned out in 741 appearances, an all-time Real Madrid record. In La Liga, Raúl was also the league’s fifth top scorer, and his 71 goals is currently standing third in the Champions League history.

At the international level, Raúl played for Spain for a decade between 1996 and 2006. His 44 goals for the country was a Spanish record until it was overtaken by David Villa. Despite his efforts, Raúl missed out the major trophies when he retired from the national team in 2006. Spain later went through its most glorious era from 2008 to 2012 when it won two European Champions and a World Cup.

Raúl’s best individual moment came in 2001, when he came in second in the Ballon d’Or and third in the World Footballer of the Year award.
