His records spoke for himself, Romário was certainly one of the most lethal finishers in football history. In a career spanning across 24 years, Romário played in four continents (in Brazil, Holland, Spain, Qatar, USA and Australia) and scored an astonishing 680 goals in almost 900 games.

1994 was the best year for Romário. He won the La Liga title with Barcelona that season, and went on to lift the World Cup trophy with Brazil. His outstanding performances earned him the World Cup Golden Ball as well as the World Footballer of the Year.

Romário could have achieved more in the World Cup. In the late nineties, he was forming a lethal partnership for Brazil with the up and coming Ronaldo. However, due to injuries, he had to pull out of the 1998 World Cup squad. By 2002, the 36-year-old veteran striker had to make way for Brazil’s famous 3R (Ronaldo, Rivaldo, Ronaldinho) strike force. Retiring with 55 international goals, Romário was Brazil’s fourth all-time top scorer, after Pele, Ronaldo and Neymar.
