One of the first modern sweepers in the game, Beckenbauer was the true leader on the field. A natural choice for captaincy, he had the influence, composure and elegance to command and organise the defensive sector of his team.
Beckenbauer has won everything in football, including multiple league titles, European Cups, as well as the prestigious European Championship and World Cup. And he repeated that amazing feat after he retired from playing in 1983 and worked as a manager. As the manager of West Germany between 1984 and 1990, he led the nation to World Cup glory before stepping down in the final year. Beckenbauer went on to take charge of his beloved Bayern Munich, leading them to another Bundesliga title and the UEFA Cup.
Till this date, Beckenbauer remains an important figure in German football.
