Legendary Booby Moore spent a great deal of his football career – a total of 16 seasons – at West Ham. The composed and elegant defender turned out more than 600 games for the east London club. Although he did not enjoy many trophies with his boyhood club, Moore made it up with the biggest prize in football with the 1966 World Cup medal, the only World Cup won by England till date.

Made a captain for the national team in 1964, Moore not only led England to glory, but also accumulated a then-record 108 caps. It was the national record for an English outfield player, and it lasted more than three decades until David Beckham overtook it in 2009.

Moore’s football career spanned 20 years. He had several stints at USA and Denmark before retiring, but made a brief comeback to play for Carolina Lightnin’ in 1983 at the age of 42. Brazilian legend Pele once cited Moore as the greatest defender he had ever played against.
