He was certainly the most gifted England player of his generation. Paul Gascoigne, nicknamed Gazza, peaked in 1990 when he was named in the England’s World Cup team. Displaying great vision and excellent passing, the talented midfielder led England all the way to the semi-final, where they would lost to old foe Germany. Nevertheless, Gascoigne’s outstanding performances saw him named in the World Cup All-Star team.
After the World Cup, Gascoigne moved on to play for Italian outfit Lazio and Scottish giant Rangers with some successes. Once again, he led England to the semi-final in the 1996 European Championship, scoring one of the tournament’s best goals against Scotland.
But Paul Gascoigne never truly realised his maximum potential to be a legendary player. Towards the end of his football career, Gascoigne could not stay at one club for long and was constantly bothered by alcoholism and other issues.
most naturally gifted English player in my life time by some distance
