The former captain and highest profile player in the England squad, David Beckham made up his lack of pace and dribbling skills with his superb crossing, world class freekicks and pinpoint passes with extraordinary accuracy.
Part of the famous Class of ’92 at Manchester United, Beckham helped the club to dominate the Premier League with six titles and played a crucial role in the amazing comeback in the 1999 Champions League final against Bayern Munich. His performances that season saw him named the runnerup in both the prestigious Ballon d’Or and World Footballer of the Year. In 2003, Real Madrid signed Beckham for £24.5m as one of their Galacticos.
Beckham’s career was filled with ups and downs. But his professionalism, determination and on-field work ethics had always aided him to bounce back and silence his critics. These were especially demonstrated in the aftermath of his reckless sending off against Argentina in 1998, as well as his fighting his way back into the first team during his last season at Real Madrid.
