Paul Scholes was Manchester United’s legend, one-club man and one of its most decorated players, with 11 Premier League trophies and 2 Champions League glories. Widely regarded as one of the world’s best central midfielders of his generation, in the nineties and 2000s, Scholes’ strengths lied in his abilities to plant long accurate passes up the field, keep strong possession of the ball and occasionally strike goals from outside the penalty boxes.
Together with the likes of Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville and David Beckham, Scholes helped Manchester United in absolute domination of the Premier League for many years. He, however, had lesser luck with England, as the national team failed to win any of the 4 major tournaments (from the 1998 World Cup to 2004 European Championship) he had played in.
In 2004, Scholes bowed out of the international scene, in order to spend more time with his family and also to put more focus in his Manchester United career.
