Longtime captain, all-time top scorer, most games played. Francesco Totti had given all to his one and only club Roma. Playing an incredible 25 seasons with the Italian capital club, developing from home grown prospect to legendary player, Totti’s loyalty, leadership and determination were of absolute top class. When he hanged up his boots in 2017, his record stood at a respectable 307 goals in 785 appearances for Roma.
In 2006, Totti made a comeback from a series of injuries to beat all odds and make it to Italy’s World Cup team. Playing as the playmaker, he finished the tournament as the joint assist leader with 4 assists. Italy won the World Cup and Totti was rewarded with a nomination in the tournament’s All-Star team.
After the World Cup, Totti continued his fine form by scoring 26 goals in the 2006/07 season, winning the coveted European Golden Shoe award. That represented the peak of his glorious football career.
