Edwin van der Sar was one of the world’s best goalkeepers during his time. Calm and agile with quick reflexes, van der Sar was extremely successful in his club careers. His first highlights came during his stint at Ajax, when he swept the league title, domestic cup, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and the Intercontinental Cup in a single season of 1995.
Van der Sar was 35 when he joined Manchester United in 2005. Despite a relatively old age, he performed admirably, and welcomed the second highlights of his long career. In 2007/2008, van der Sar helped the Red Devils won the Premier League, Community Shield, Champions League and the Club World Cup. In his last season with Manchester United, van der Sar, at the age of 40, became the oldest player in Premier League to clinch the title.
Although he had limited successes with Holland, van der Sar nevertheless played in two World Cups and three European Championships, and amassed a then-national record of 130 caps.
